Medication Information

Our Approach to Medication

Medication is one tool in our clinical toolkit — not a standalone treatment. When we prescribe medication, it is always as part of a broader treatment plan that includes psychotherapy and other therapeutic interventions. Medication is always discussed and agreed with you.

Prescribing

Medication is prescribed only by our consultant psychiatrists. They will explain what the medication does, why it is being recommended, the expected benefits, potential side effects, and how long you are likely to take it. You are always free to ask questions and to decline medication.

Monitoring

If you are prescribed medication, your consultant will monitor you regularly — more frequently when starting a new medication or changing doses. Blood tests and physical health checks may be required for some medications.

Coming Off Medication

When the time is right, your consultant will discuss a plan for reducing and stopping medication. This is always done gradually, with close monitoring, and only when both you and your consultant agree you are ready.
