Irene is a consultant child & adolescent psychiatrist offering a range of clinic services including:
Psychiatric assessment and diagnosis for general child and adolescent mental health difficulties including anxiety depression, obsessional and compulsive disorders.
Out-patient treatment of anorexia nervosa (and bulimia nervosa).
Advice and supervision of appropriate psychotropic medication.
Therapeutic interventions with individuals, parents and families based on psychodynamic (adolescent-orientated), cognitive and behaviourally informed therapy methods.
Affiliate member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Co-opted member of the Eating Disorder Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (currently the academic secretary).
Training & Experience
Irene completed her medical degree at the institute of Medicine (Rangoon) before moving to Hong Kong in 1977 and then to the UK in 1980. She completed her postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Medicine and the Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence in the UK.
She started work as a Community Paediatrician Surrey, and was instrumental in bridging the collaborative working of paediatricians and child psychiatrists.
She was a member of the focus group in developing specialist services for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the early 2000s.
Irene has continued with her training on Eating Disorders – in family based approaches (the Maudsley Multi-family Group and Family Based Treatment).
Irene has been involved in national and international (multi-centre) research projects for Early Onset Eating Disorders.
Irene is currently a co-author and publishing a manual (for professionals) for a parent’s Psycho-education group for children and adolescents with Eating Disorders (anorexia and bulimia).
