Training & Experience

Theresa graduated with a Masters of Arts Psychology degree (with Distinction) from Wits University, Johannesburg. Prior to qualifying as a clinical psychologist, Theresa raised her children and, in this time, she ran her own business and volunteered as a grief counsellor for an NGO. It is through this work that Theresa’s passion to work and pursue a career as therapist evolved.

After graduating, Theresa practised for six years as an independent psychologist for the Department of Health in South Africa. She worked in community clinics across Johannesburg, as well as being a supervisor to interns and member of the psychotherapy committee, Wits University.

Theresa had a successful private practice in Johannesburg for seven years before moving to the UK. Before joining Cardinal Clinic, Theresa worked in an inpatient NHS Tier 4 and Adult General Acute hospital services and gained valuable experience in therapy modalities for patients struggling with complex mental health difficulties. Theresa specialises in working with anxiety, mood, personality and adjustment difficulties. Theresa has also worked in the business sector, providing group facilitation and counselling for difficulties such as psychological stress and burnout, change management and interpersonal dynamics.
