A recent news article suggests that school children are attempting suicide to gain the help they need from CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). The article suggests it isn’t just to do with underfunding but also that the young people aren’t always taken seriously by professionals. Insufficient Funding for Mental Health

This article demonstrates how chronic underfunding in NHS services has impacted on mental health services, with CAMHS services being sadly at the bottom of the pile of priorities in funding. As clinicians, we stand a better chance of intervening with children’s problems early in their presentation, rather than when issues escalate to a point of real emergency. Active intervening in child mental health issues also reduces the risk of chronic conditions developing in later adult life. Investing in CAHMS services leads to healthier adult populations for the future and it is important for this message to get through to Government and NHS commissioners.

Dr Fivos Cacoullis, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is commenting after reading https://inews.co.uk/essentials/news/education/pupils-attempting-suicide-just-get-mental-health-support/

We have a very experienced CAMHS team comprising of psychiatrists and therapists who are able to treat a wide range of conditions in young people. More information on the team can be found here https://cardinalclinic.co.uk/child-adolescent-team/
