The following blog covers information about The Day Programme at The Cardinal Clinic from our Psychological Therapist and Day Programme Lead, Toria Tutt.

It may be one of the lesser known services we provide at the Cardinal Clinic but we are extremely proud of the Day Programme.  At Cardinal Clinic, we are a small team who specialise in providing a psychologically based programme on an outpatient basis.  We work closely with our Consultant Psychiatrists and Therapists as part of a cohesive team with the united goal of supporting our patients recovery.

We welcome patients with a variety of mental health concerns; depression, anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, work place stress/burnout, personality disorders and bipolar disorder to name a few.

Why is day care more effective than out-patient care?

Our day-care programme allows patients to have a more intensive approach to treatment rather than coming to the Clinic as an outpatient. The Day care programme also provides a more structured support than a patient would receive when they are discharged as an in-patient.

What is day care treatment?

We run the programme from a beautiful barn on the Clinic site. Our Day Care programme operates three days a week between 9am and 5pm. Patients can attend one day a week or for multiple days. Furthermore, patients are expected to attend for the whole day and go to all groups. Lunch and light refreshments are provided throughout the day. Different days have different themes and therefore some days may be more appropriate for a patients personal care than others. Each day is limited to a maximum of 10 patients to ensure we are able to provide adequate one to one support.

We offer a wide variety of psychoeducational groups that equip patients with the tools to manage their mental health.  These include, Anxiety Management, Raising Self- Esteem, CBT skills, Transactional Analysis and an Introduction to DBT.  We balance these with creative groups such as art therapy, creative writing and yoga.  Every patient who joins us is under the care of a Consultant Psychiatrist. They are also given a dedicated key worker who provides therapeutic support throughout their time with us.

Recent reviews

Patients who have attended the day programme have left reviews on ‘I want great care’ and have given us a 5 star rating which perfectly captures what we are about:

“Fantastic team! The dedication, kindness, and communication as outstanding. Life changing experience.”

“I have felt supported and valued by the staff here, it had been a really positive experience to be involved in group therapy. I feel I have benefited hugely.”

“Offer excellent well round support. Supportive staff, treating us with dignity and respect. Do a good job of kind of ‘bringing people back to life’.”

Fees

We are covered by most insurance companies and also offer competitive packages for self- funding patients.

How do I get a referral?

Existing Cardinal Clinic patients

If you are an existing cardinal clinic patient, the day care programme will be discussed with you if your consultant believes you would benefit from it.

New patients

Patients who are referred directly to Day Care by their GP, are first seen by a consultant psychiatrist to identify the areas that need addressing.  We do accept patients referring themselves to Day Care although an initial assessment from a consultant psychiatrist would be required to ensure that it was an appropriate service for your needs.

All patients then meet with a member of the Day Care team to discuss the appropriate days to attend. On joining the Day Care programme, each patient is allocated a key worker who is the main point of contact. They work collaboratively with the patient and the team to provide a process of continuous assessment.  They also offer support and set and review your therapeutic and recovery goals.  The key worker will form part of a patient’s multi-disciplinary team.  This team comprises psychiatrists, nurses and psychologists who all work together to bring a unique range of experience and expertise to the treatment for each patient.  The whole team actively supports patients in their goal to recovery.
