Dr Andrew Macaulay
General Adult, Adolescents, and Addictions
Dr Macaulay trained at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and was a research fellow at St. George’s Hospital Medical School. He has been awarded an MD for his research and has an MSc in clinical psychotherapy. Past appointments have included General Psychiatrist for 2 decades in East Berkshire for the NHS. During this time he was Clinical Tutor and was involved in many aspects of work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He was also Chairman of the Research Ethics Committee in East Berkshire.
Dr Macaulay has been working in private practice at Cardinal Clinic for 25 years and has an outreach clinic in Iver Heath. His specialist interests include medical education, including interview skills and media training workshops. He was produced a substantial number of educational DVDs, and has worked in broadcast, for amongst others channel four.
His approach is eclectic, and above all pragmatic. At Cardinal Clinic Dr Macaulay tends to see the more acute and disturbed patients whatever the diagnosis.
He feels that a meaningfully therapeutic doctor/patient relationship is critical to a good long-term outcome. It is often important to involve the family in any treatment endeavour.
